We create furniture that is fundamentally sustainable: pieces of enduring quality that can be passed down to the next generation.

Method

We believe that honest design articulated through unique material and impeccable craftsmanship will withstand the test of time. Whether is it a select piece of lumber, sheet of cold rolled steel or leather hide, our furniture is designed to showcase its history and character rather than force-fit the material into a specific design. Every item is created by hand using both traditional methods and modern techniques. The final result is exceptional furniture that’s made to last a lifetime.

Sustainability

Our design process stays true to its components so that we may share with you what we find special in it. This process is time consuming, often spanning years but the end result is well worth the wait: material and form that are meant to be together. We design and fabricate every aspect of our furniture in house to ensure it meets our high standards, this keeps production hyperlocal and allows raw materials to be fully utilized.  Scrap wood helps heat our studios, unusable leather is donated to artists, we fabricate with recycled steel and recycle every bit that is unused; we are conscious of our environment and strive to leave the lightest footprint possible.

Community

For us home is a 65,000 square ft factory in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York.  Purchased in 2007 and in a constant state of restoration, half of the factory is dedicated to our furniture manufacturing facilities while the remainder is run as an events venue known as the Cracker Factory.  Dedicated to community, the second floor is utilized as an exhibition space, concert venue,  and contains a letterpress printing shop.  Many art events are curated by our 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, 3 Stories. To learn more about the Cracker Factory, please visit thecrackerfactory.org.
